Ohio - CDCA, LCDC II, LCDC III & LICDC Training
In the state of Ohio there is one lower level credential and three licensures related to working in the chemical dependency field:
- CDCA - Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant
- LCDC II - Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II
- LCDC III - Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III
- LICDC - Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor
We provide the curriculum that fulfills the education requirements of the 4 credentials in Ohio.
CDCA
CDCA Requirements |

| Education | 40 hours in chemical dependency counseling/clinical methods |
| Work Experience in an Addiction Counseling Environment | Must be currently employed in an addiction counseling setting that utlizes the 12 core functions |
| Direct Supervision | n/a |

According the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, to become a CDCA "applicants must document forty (40) hours of education in chemical dependency counseling/clinical methods." The 40 hours of required education can be fulfilled by completing any of the following independent study courses that specifically relate to the chemical dependency counseling field. Though these courses are intended for recertification/relicensure, they are appropriate for completing the education requirements to become a CDCA.
LCDC II
LCDC II Requirements |

| Previous education | Associate's degree in the behavioral sciences or a Bachelor's degree in any field |
| Education | 270 hours Chemical Dependency Education |
| Work Experience in an Addiction Counseling Environment | 3 years full time work - 6,000 hours.* |
| Direct Supervision | 330 documented hours utilizing the 12 core functions |
| Test | AODA written exam |

LCDC III
LCDC III Requirements |

| Previous education | Bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences |
| Education | 270 hours Chemical Dependency Education |
| Work Experience in an Addiction Counseling Environment | 2 years full time work, or 4,000 hours. A Master's degree substitutes 1 year, or 2,000 hours. |
| Direct Supervision | 330 documented hours utilizing the 12 core functions |
| Test | AODA written exam |

LICDC
LICDC Requirements |

| Previous education | Master's degree in the behavioral sciences |
| Education | 270 hours Chemical Dependency Education |
| Work Experience in an Addiction Counseling Environment | 3 years full time work, or 6,000 hours. Two years (4,000 hours) of the three must be in clinical supervisory experience. |
| Direct Supervision | 330 documented hours utilizing the 12 core functions |
| Test | AODA written exam and the CS written exam |
